4.0 out of 5 stars good guts, hard to set housing, June 19, 2008

These are very good products, but they're designed for install in bare studs, not really to replace and existing fan unless you removed sheetrock and took out the houseing from the old fan. The great thing about it, however, is that I just took the new parts out of this one and they fit right into the old houseing. Very cool. Problem? They don't sell the guts individually so you have to buy the whole thing and then you're left with a metal sqare to recyle.

This unit was installed as a replacement for another Broan purchased in 1987. I chose it because it would accept a 100-watt bulb. Not many other models will.

But it is loud when the fan is switched on. In another home we recently built, some Panasonic bathroom vent/heat/light units were much, much quieter. And they offered more features as well. Such as a small wattage Night LIght. It allowed midnight trips to the bathroom without turning on the main light.

The Broan certainly was inexpensive.

selected this fan over other more quiet models as the housing was same size as fan to be replaced. I didn't want to patch drywall. install was simple, removed components from old fan and replaced with components from new one. took about 10 minutes. looks and exhausts great, but is quite loud. great fix for an old broan, but would avoid if size wasn't an issue. shipment from amazon, great as always.
